Clark-Waters House
The Clark-Waters house is a private home located at 23346 Frederick Road. It is across from what used to be Clarksburg's trading post/general store. The log portion in the back of the structure is John G. and Ann Archey Clark's original home. William Willson and his wife Sarah Jupine Clark (their daughter) lived there. The front of the home was added by their descendants.
Anita Joan Ashley, 84, was the most recent owner of this house. Anita had a passion for antiques and was the owner of Ashley's Antiques in Clarksburg for more than 30 years. She was an extraordinarily kind, generous, funny, and fiercely independent woman, who made friends wherever she went. She passed away recently. At this point, it is not clear who will be the next owner.

"A circa 1960 or earlier photo of the Clark Waters house in Clarksburg. To get a more accurate date of the photo, the Ralph Martz house next door is newly built. When my father purchased the house in 1960, he planted English boxwood in the front and these plants had been "hand dug" from a site in the Comus area.
Later in my life in a conversation with Mrs. Ashley, she had no idea of the value -- thousands of dollars - of the boxwood -- which by then were probably 100 years old!!"

"The . . . photo is when Bobby Williams and Brian Johnson had owned the house around 1970. With their historically accurate restoration, the house was in its 'prime' and the English boxwood which my father had transplanted were still thriving!"
